Port Coquitlam Saints Drop Two at Home as Season Winds Down
The Port Coquitlam Saints faced a tough weekend at home, dropping back-to-back games as the 2025 season nears its close.
On Friday night, the Saints hosted the Burnaby Lakers in a spirited matchup at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. Rookies Woodson MacRae and Chase Hemmerling-McLean both tallied their first Junior A goals, providing bright spots for the Saints. Additional call-ups Callum Turpin and Hudson Kennedy also saw action, as the Saints continue to provide valuable experience to their younger players.
PoCo came out strong, taking the lead after the first period, but Burnaby responded with a five-goal second period to flip the momentum. Despite a late push, the Saints fell short, with Burnaby sealing the 8-6 win with just over a minute left in the game.
Sunday’s matchup against the Victoria Shamrocks saw further roster changes as the Saints, officially out of playoff contention, shifted focus toward development. With a lineup featuring several newcomers, familiar face Ty Fisher moved back up to the offensive unit and continued his scoring streak—finding the back of the net once again. Victoria left no doubt why they are No.2 in the league winning by a score of 11-3.
Meanwhile, the organization made some moves off the floor, trading for future considerations. Notably, Lincoln Wall has joined former Saints teammates Joel Mullen and Ashton Brown with the Nanaimo Timbermen.
The Saints return to action at home on Friday, July 4th for the last home game of the season when they welcome the New Westminster Salmonbellies to town. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.
