Port Coquitlam Saints Face Adversity on the Road, Eye Return Home Against Burnaby

The road has proven unforgiving for the Port Coquitlam Saints, who dropped back-to-back road games this week while managing injuries and major roster changes.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Saints traveled to face the New Westminster Salmonbellies. The game ended in a tough 6-11 loss, but the greater blow came with injuries to key players. Andrew  Cowan exited with an ankle sprain and is expected to miss two weeks, while Chris Fournier suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Despite the setbacks, Ty Fisher turned in a standout performance, filling roles on defence, transition, and offence, and contributing a goal and an assist in the effort.

Off the floor, the Saints front office was busy reshaping the roster with a series of trades for future considerations. Transistion player Levi Touhey was dealt to New Westminster in exchange for Daniel Xiong and a familiar name—Nathan Roseborsky, who returns to the Saints program. As the saying goes, Once a Saint, always a Saint. Meanwhile, Joel Mullen and Ashton Brown were sent to the Nanaimo Timbermen, and Josh Mills is heading east to join the Beaches as they chase an OJLL title.

With new faces in the lineup, the Saints faced the Victoria Shamrocks on Saturday, June 21. Rookie Ryan Law made his Junior A debut, while Fisher and Tagg Moog shifted into offensive roles and Nolan Ross anchored the defence. Parker M’Lot led the scoring with a hat trick, and Fisher added two more goals in another strong individual outing. For the first time this season, the right side of the offence outscored the left. The Saints came out sharp in the first period but couldn't maintain momentum, as Victoria pulled away in the second en route to a 13-6 win.

The Saints now turn their focus to getting back on track at home. They'll host the Burnaby Lakers on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. With new energy and a chance to reset, the Saints will be looking to make a statement on home floor.
