Saints Drop Back-to-Back Games as Regular Season Nears End

It was a tough weekend for the Port Coquitlam Saints as they dropped two games in as many nights — one at home against the New Westminster Salmonbellies and one on the road in Nanaimo.

Friday, July 4 – Home vs. New Westminster

The Saints came out flying in the first period, overwhelming the Salmonbellies with a 5-1 lead heading into the first intermission. However, the momentum quickly shifted. New Westminster stormed back in the second frame, outscoring PoCo 6-2 to tie the game. The Saints briefly regained the lead in the third period, but a relentless four-goal surge by the Salmonbellies sealed an 11-8 defeat for the home team.

The Salmonbellies peppered the net with 59 shots, while the Saints registered 41 of their own. A bright spot for PoCo was forward Tagg Moog, who notched his first hat trick of the season, electrifying the home crowd.

Saturday, July 5 – Away vs. Nanaimo

The next night, the Saints traveled to Nanaimo to face the Timbermen and were immediately put on their heels. Nanaimo unleashed a barrage of 32 shots in the opening period, jumping out to a commanding 6-1 lead. Goaltender Aaron Price faced relentless pressure before Mason Weir entered the game with 15 minutes left in the second. Weir delivered an impressive third period, holding the Timbermen scoreless, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Final shots: 70 for Nanaimo, 38 for the Saints.

With the regular season winding down, your Port Coquitlam Saints will look to finish strong in their final matchup on Thursday, July 10 in Langley against the Thunder.
