Saints Falter Late in 7–3 Loss to Adanacs
Some games start with a spark that makes you believe anything is possible. For the Port Coquitlam Saints, that spark came early—surviving a first‑period shooting barrage that would’ve buried most teams. It didn’t end the way they hoped, but the fight they showed set a tone worth remembering.
The Adanacs came out firing, peppering the Saints with 18 shots to just 7. Yet somehow, improbably, the period ended 1–1. That “somehow” had a name: Ashton Brown. The Saints’ goaltender was locked in from the opening whistle, tracking everything through traffic and posting a stellar .822 save percentage on the night.
The middle frame belonged to Port Coquitlam in the gritty areas. They won the loose‑ball battle, extended possessions, and forced Coquitlam into uncomfortable resets. It wasn’t perfect, but it was progress. The Saints clawed their way into rhythm, matching the Adanacs stride for stride and keeping the game within reach heading into the third.
Momentum can be fragile. Halfway in the third, the Adanacs found a seam, then another, and suddenly the game tilted. Coquitlam outscored the Saints 3–0 in the final frame, pulling away for a 7–3 final that felt harsher than the effort suggested.
The Saints generated chances but couldn’t finish when it mattered most. A couple of near misses, a post, and a few Adanacs sticks in the lane told the story.
If there’s one area the Saints will circle in red ink, it’s the power play.
Saints: 2 goals on 8 opportunities
Adanacs: 1 goal on 5 chances
Slightly better than their opponent, yes—but eight chances is a gift you can’t leave unopened. A few more conversions and this game looks very different.

The Saints didn’t lack heart. They lacked finish. Against a disciplined Adanacs squad, that margin proved costly. Still, the defensive resilience, Brown’s standout performance, and the second‑period push offer real building blocks.
The Saints next home is Sunday, May 24th. Doors open at 2:30 pm and the game starts at 3:30 p.m. Port Coquitlam Community Centre. A home crowd, a quick turnaround, and a chance to reset. Exactly what this team needs.
