Saints Open Season with Win-Loss Weekend Split
The 2025 BC Junior A Lacrosse League season is underway, and the Port Coquitlam Saints kicked things off with a split weekend, delivering a commanding home-opener win before falling on the road.
The Saints came out firing on all cylinders Friday night in front of a packed house of over 600 fans at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, downing the Langley Thunder 11–5 in a statement victory. Seven different players found the back of the net in a true team effort, with Josh Mills leading the charge with four goals and three assists. The energy in the building was electric, setting the tone for a season full of promise.
But the quick turnaround proved challenging. Less than 24 hours later, the Saints were on Vancouver Island to face the Nanaimo Timbermen, where they fell 6–11 in a hard-fought battle. Despite the loss, the left side of the offense stepped up, with contributions from Josh Mills, Lincoln Wall, and Andrew Cowan. Mills continued his hot start to the season with a hat trick performance.
Between the pipes, Ashton Brown—fresh off his rookie season with the NLL’s Halifax Thunderbirds—stood tall, finishing the weekend with a strong .832 save percentage, providing the Saints with consistent play in goal.
Head Coach Travis Cornwall remained optimistic despite the split, noting, “It was great to see so many players get their first Junior A goals this weekend. We’ve got work to do, and we’re back at it in practice tomorrow.”
The Saints shift focus to Week 2 with two big matchups on the horizon. They’ll travel to take on the Burnaby Lakers at the Bill Copeland Arena on Wednesday, before returning home to face the always-tough New Westminster Salmonbellies on Friday night at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.
With the season just getting started, there's plenty of lacrosse still to come—and your Saints are just heating up.
