Saints Split the Week with Thriller Win at Home
The Port Coquitlam Saints continued their up-and-down stretch with another split week, dropping a tough road contest in Langley before rebounding with a dramatic home victory over a surging Delta Islanders squad.
Thursday, June 12 – The Saints traveled to Langley to take on a Thunder team hot on their heels in the standings. Port Coquitlam came out strong, dominating the first period with a 5–2 lead. However, momentum shifted in the second, with Langley outscoring the Saints 6–2 to take an 8–7 advantage into the final frame. Despite a late push and standout performances from Josh Mills (hat trick, 4 points), Daniel Mahoney (5 assists), and defenceman Levi Touhey (1 goal in transition), the Saints fell just short in a 10–9 loss.
Friday, June 13 – Back at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, the Saints faced the red-hot Delta Islanders, fresh off a win over the top-ranked Coquitlam Adanacs. With former Saints goaltender Greyson Beggs standing tall in Delta’s crease, the Saints were undeterred. They built an early 5–3 lead and showed resilience after the Islanders clawed back to go ahead midway through the third. German import Benno Wendt notched his first Junior A goal in textbook transition style, assisted by Joel Mullen. Tied late, Josh Mills delivered once again with the game-winner at 1:37. The defence shut the door with two key caused turnovers, and goaltender Ashton Brown sealed the win with a clutch final save, preserving a gritty 10–9 victory.
Looking ahead to Week 6, the Saints hit the road again with matchups against the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Tuesday, June 17, and the Victoria Shamrocks on Saturday, June 21. The next home action comes Friday, June 27 at 7:00 PM as the Saints host the Burnaby Lakers.
Stay tuned and stay loud, PoCo – the Saints are heating up!
