Week 4 - Port Coquitlam Saints Split Weekend Series
Port Coquitlam Saints Split Weekend Series, Snap Losing Streak with Big Win Over Timbermen
Back at home for a critical weekend, your Port Coquitlam Saints split their two-game set, falling to the Coquitlam Adanacs on Friday before bouncing back in a strong showing against the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday.
Friday night's tilt against the defending Minto Cup champions showcased a more competitive Saints squad. Tied 3-3 after the first period and trailing just 5-7 after two, the Saints battled hard in a low-scoring contest. Stat sheets showed a more cohesive offensive effort—highlighted by improved swing passes and offensive players leading in loose ball recoveries. Notable moments included American import Daniel Mahoney scoring his first Canadian backhand goal, and Dylan Ilett finding the back of the net in transition for his first goal of the season. Despite the renewed energy, the Saints fell 6-10.
Determined to shake off a four-game skid, the Saints came out with intensity Sunday against a capable Nanaimo Timbermen roster. Lineup adjustments and a renewed mindset paid off immediately, as the Saints stormed to a 5-1 first-period lead. The Timbermen responded in the second, narrowing the gap to two goals, but Port Coquitlam held firm. Turning the tables on their previous 6-11 loss to Nanaimo, the Saints secured a much-needed 11-9 win and re-established momentum.
Looking ahead, the Saints travel to Langley on Thursday to take on the Thunder, before returning home Friday to face the Delta Islanders—seeking redemption after a tough loss earlier this season.
Let’s fill the barn, Saints fans—redemption and rivalry await!
